This class is the introductory class in the lifting & stabilization series that can be offered as a standalone delivery or as part of the Principles of Lifting & Stabilization. The focus of this class is on the basic principles of stabilization using wooden cribbing. The characteristics of cribbing are examined in detail as we discuss the species and grades of wood typically used in the fire service. The process of compression testing is explained in detail allowing the students to fully understand the capabilities and limitations of their cribbing and properly determine its rated capacity. The practical evolution involves the proper construction of various box cribs utilized to stabilize & capture a load, as well lifting stacks used in conjunction with high pressure lift bags. Students will be faced with challenging stabilization scenarios involving wheel resting, side resting, & rolled over vehicles.
